Strombergs Takes UCI Supercross, Conner Fields Earns Bronze

NBL Champions September 27th, 2009

Olympic gold medalist Maris Strombergs (LAT) scored a huge victory at round three of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Chula Vista, California. Australian Sam Willoughby narrowly earned Silver just in front Free Agent Factory racer Connor Fields. Maris got the the holeshot from lane one and led wire-to-wire, while 17-year-old Conner Fields, back from injury earlier this year, was fourth into the first turn. Conner moved into third on the second to last straight and pulled even with Aussie Sam Willoughby in the final berm. Connor just missed the Silver medal by a 1/4 second, but to earn Bronze after his comeback is remarkable. Another great weekend for Free Agent. Click here for video of the race.

Factory Free Agent Breaks Out Big At Florida ABA National

February 23rd, 2009

Another good weekend for the Free Agent Team at the ABA Oldsmar, Florida Nationals.

Saturday (Day 1) was the UCI event, which was filmed for NBC, and once again great coverage for Factory Free Agent with Cristian Becerine taking a huge win against the World's best. Cristian has spent the last 2 months training hard and now it is starting to come through for 2009 with his first big win of the year. To make it even better, it's going to be broadcast on NBC Nationwide in the next few months! Great job Big C!

European, World and Olympic Champion, Maris Strombergs, was running 2nd to Cristian in the final but was ridden off the track by another rider, ending a chance of a Free Agent 1st and 2nd.

Conner Fields (Junior Men) had another great weekend in Florida and more TV time, with a 1st and 2nd on Saturday and another 1st on Sunday. Connor has just been invited to go to Colombia in a few weeks for a big event, so looks like a busy month coming up for the Con Man!

Kyle Bennett was back on track in Florida. After a mistake in qualifying on Saturday, Kyle came back with a 3rd in Sunday's final behind Donny Robinson, who won, and teammate Maris Strombergs in 2nd. 2 Free Agent Pros on Sunday's podium was good to see.

Latvian Free Agent Flow Team rider and Maris' training partner, Kristaps Konrads, had another consistent weekend placing 6th in Sunday's A Pro finals and some more great American racing experience.

In the Vet Pro class this weekend, Dale Holmes placed 3rd on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday.

All in all, another good weekend for the Factory Free Agent, taking 8 podiums over the 2 days and some great TV coverage.

Conner Fields Signs with Free Agent for 2009

November 4, 2008

Free Agent Bicycles is proud to announce the signing 16 year-old sensation Connor Fields to the Free Agent Team for 2009.

Fields, from Henderson Nevada, has won over 25 Nationals already this year. He is currently the USAC number one, NBL number one and current ABA age group points leader. “Connor is already ahead off his time with his skill, speed and maturity for such a young age,” said Free Agents Team Manager Dale Holmes. “When Connor is out on the track even the Worlds best Pros will stop and watch, keeping a close eye on where the competition could come from in the next few years.”

Fields will focus on both the ABA and NBL National series, alongside the UCI North American Continental series and the World Championships in Australia. He will ease into the UCI World Cup over the next few years with the Junior Olympic being the goal in 2010 and then the London Olympics in 2012.

Cristian Becerine Focused on the Olympics and NBL Title

July 21, 2008

This past weekend was the final stop on the NBL National Tour in Nashville, Tennessee before the Grand Nationals next month in Louisville, Kentucky.

National points being very important this weekend the pressure was on. Kyle Bennett showed up Saturday but crashed in the semi-final. Luckily Kyle was OK and decided to sit out the rest of the weekend and play it safe for next month's Olympics.

Cristian Becerine was on fire this weekend, going into the race 3rd in points but after a 2nd on Saturday and a huge win on Sunday, Cristian goes into the Grand Nationals leading points and a chance to walk away with his first NBL Pro Title!

Dale Holmes Masters Nashville, Now Leads Master Pro Points

July 21, 2008

Dale Holmes, also went over to Nashville and came out with a win on Sunday in the Masters class, and also will go into the Grand Nationals leading the Master Pro Points class.

Hopefully, with a good weekend in Kentucky, Free Agent can walk away with 2 Pro titles and make history yet again!

NBL Champion Kyle Bennett Selected for Olympic Team

May 28th, 2008

On behalf of the National Bicycle League (NBL), we would like to congratulate Kyle Bennett on being the first athlete named to the US Olympic BMX Racing Team – Well deserved!  Bennett is the reigning NBL Elite Men's Champion, a title he has held three times (2002, 2004, 2007), and was officially recognized by USA Cycling as the first US Olympian for BMX.

Bennett, who rides for Free Agent Bicycles and lives in Conroe, Texas, secured the title after the Denmark UCI Supercross by earning the most USA Cycling Ranking points. Kyle is the first of three men to be named to the Olympic squad and is currently in Taiyuan, China getting ready to defend his 2007 World Championship crown. Two of Kyle’s NBL titles also coincide with his UCI World titles (2002, 2007) and we are proud to be a part of Kyle’s mission to bring back the Gold in Beijing, China in August.

Kyle will be watching the US Olympic trials on June 14 at Chula Vista, CA to see who will join him on the Olympic squad. The winner of the 8-man event will be the 2nd rider named to the team. One week following the Olympic trials, NBL will host back-to-back weekends of Pro racing from Prunedale, CA on June 21-22 (http://www.manzanitaparkbmx.com/) and then South Park, PA (http://spbmx.us/) June 28-29. Visit www.nbl.org to see current pro standings and more.

New FREE AGENT Marc Willers Takes 2nd in Spanish UCI Round

February 10th, 2008

This past weekend was the first UCI World Cup of the 08 season in Madrid Spain. The race was for elite men only and the Free Agent World Team were out in full force looking for very important Olympic points and selection in a packed indoor arena with screaming fans watching from the sidelines. Argentina's Cristian Becerine and Ramiro Marino were riding well but bad luck struck them both in the quarter finals with both of them going out. Come final time, another record for the Free Agent World Team with 3 riders making the 8 men World Cup final! (No other team has done this at the World Cup level.)

Marc Willers, Kyle Bennett and Andres Jimenez all rode awesomely against the World's best and made it to the final, which was broadcast live on the Internet World Wide and live TV throughout Europe. New Zealand World Team rider Marc Willers backed up his World Cup win from last year with a huge 2nd place in the final and more points towards his place in the Olympics. Great job Marc. Kyle and Andres rode great but slow starts in the final and the track being so tight to pass on made it hard for them to come through the pack and they finished 6th and 8th. Still good Olympic points for all our guys in the final. The next UCI World Cup will be in Adelaide Australia in April.

Cristian Becerine Wins Saturday at ABA National inGuthrie OK

February 5th, 2008

This past weekend was the 2nd round of the ABA National series in Guthrie, Oklahoma. With Kyle Bennett over in San Diego training with the US Olympic team, the World Team was represented by Cristian Becerine, Dale Holmes and UK Team rider Kelvin Batey who is in the U.S. training for the winter.

Cristian Becerine seems to be back to health taking a huge win on Saturday and some great form going into the World Cup in Spain next week. Great job, Cristian. Dale had a few crashes in Vet Pro this weekend costing me the wins but still got on the podium both days with 3rd place both days.

Visiting UK Team rider Kelvin Batey has been adjusting to U.S. racing during the last month, put together a great race finishing 4th in the AA class against the World’s best. The World Team will now fly out to Spain for the UCI World Cup next week.

Kyle Bennett Cannot Be Stopped!!!

January 29th, 2008

Kyle Bennett cannot be stopped! Kyle won the UCI race Friday and then backed it up Saturday with another big win in the NBL Nationals. Sunday's race was rained out, so everyone's result from Saturday was doubled. 3 huge scores for Kyle, who now leads both NBL Points and UCI Olympic Points qualification for the USA! Kyle will be spending a lot of time in the next few months at the USA Olympic training center in San Diego with other USA Olympic hopefuls training for Beijing.

Cristian Becerine has been suffering with a bad cold the last few weeks, but you would not think so in his riding. 7th in the UCI event after a bad start and two 3rd place results from the NBL race. Another podium weekend for Cristian and the Team.

Dale Holmes went out to Arizona with the team to hang out and do a little racing myself, placing 2nd in Vet Pro after slipping while in the lead.

In South America it was round 5 and 6 of their UCI Olympic points races in Argentina. Again, 3 Free Agent riders in the finals. Colombia's Andres Jimenez finished 2nd, Ramiro Marino 3rd and Fausto Endara 5th. Andres took 3rd on Saturday, giving him the overall victory for the weekend and all three team riders great points towards Olympic qualification.
