It’s been a busy month even though we’re drawing near the end of the Season. First up, a big congrats to Juan Marin who flew down to Colombia and placed 2nd in the National Games in Elite behind 2x Olympic Finalist, Andres Jimenez. Over in California, last weekend the Team went to Chula Vista to support Stephen Murray’s StayStrong Fundraising Event. Maris, Cristian, Stephen, Marcus & Dale all spent the day raising money and spending time with the local kids and along with the remaining So-Cal BMX community, they collectively raised over $5000 for a great cause. A big shout out to Elite Pro Rider, Tyler Brown for putting it all together.
Over in Colorado, David Herman was doing his bit and was a part of a clinic held at Colorado BMX Indoor, benefiting Kyle Bennett’s fund. David & the guys raised over $850 to support Kyle’s daughter — great job guys!
This coming weekend, is the USA/BMX Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Oaklahoma. Cristian Becerine and David Herman will be “repping” FA for the final race of the 2012 Season. Cristian will be going for the Vet Pro Title while Herman will be looking to put in a strong finish for the year.
If you haven’t already read by now on Maris’ website, Facebook or Twitter — he has decided to call it a year and will not be going to the Grand Nationals. It goes without saying, the Olympic Games took a lot out of him both physically and mentally and he will instead head home to Latvia to spend some much-needed time with his family and to do some Olympic Champion promotions. Maris was also recently nominated as Sports Personality of the Year in Latvia, which he’s already won before. Fingers crossed, Maris will win it again. Maris is also featured on the cover of a newly released book in Latvia, which highlights many Latvian Olympic athletes in their journey prior to, during and after the Games.
